What will this Shipt offer earn?

Assess one order or a whole bundle. All pay, minutes and miles below are totals for that offer. Sample values are illustrations, not Shipt rates.

1. Pay for the whole offer

Include promo pay already in the offer. Do not add it again.

Total across customers. An estimated tip is not guaranteed.

Only earned bonuses or adjustments allocated to this offer.

Changes per-order results; never multiplies the offer pay.

2. Count the whole work cycle

Include travel to the store and repositioning after delivery in driving. Allocate shared waiting time once; exclude personal breaks.

3. Allow for the car

Maintenance, tires, depreciation and allocated insurance. Exclude gas.

Tolls, parking or other allocated expenses, counted once.

You need $23.00 total earnings for 60 minutes at $20.00/hour after costs.

With no tip, platform pay must be $23.00. With your entered tip, it must be at least $17.00.

Current platform pay needs $9.00 in total tips to reach the target.

At this payout and cost, your time budget is 51.0 minutes. Extra time lowers your hourly return.

$20 earned, $17 kept, one hour gone

Our Shipt shopper pay calculator turns a hypothetical $20 payout into $17 per hour after driving costs. That payout includes $14 of platform pay and a $6 tip. Shopping, checkout, delivery, return driving and waiting consume 60 minutes, while ten miles cost $3. The offer pays something quite different from the number you keep for an hour of work.

We assess the complete shop-and-deliver cycle, from reaching the store to being ready for another offer. The same $20 payout looks like $34 net per hour if you count only 30 minutes. Grocery substitutions, checkout queues and the drive back still occupy your day, even when they disappear from a quick mental estimate. Every amount below is an illustration, not a measured Shipt average.

Shipt's shopper pay explanation says shoppers are independent contractors paid per order, with estimated offers reflecting time and effort. That isn't a universal hourly wage or a fixed percentage of the grocery receipt. Start with the actual offer or completed earnings record; a $100 basket doesn't establish your compensation.

Where did the 60 minutes go?

Picture one grocery order: 25 minutes locating products and handling substitutions, ten minutes for checkout and unloading, 20 minutes driving to the store, customer and next working location, plus five minutes waiting for another offer. Those categories add to one hour. A double order needs a combined time estimate, including both drop-offs, rather than two copies of the same store visit.

To check a week, add the actual work minutes across all offers and divide total net earnings by those hours. Don't charge the same ten-minute wait to both neighboring orders. Personal lunch breaks belong outside work time; sitting available for an offer belongs inside it. Both Shipt and Instacart shoppers face this distinction. Our Instacart pay calculator handles a separate batch-based earnings estimate.

3 dollars of car cost change the offer

Fuel cost equals miles ÷ US MPG × price per US gallon. Ten miles at 30 MPG on $3.60 gas cost $1.20. Add ten miles × $0.18 for non-fuel vehicle costs: $1.80. Together they make $3. The $0.18 assumption is a planning allowance for wear and ownership costs, not an IRS deduction rate or a claim about every shopper's car.

Net hourly pay = (platform pay + tips − operating costs) ÷ (total minutes ÷ 60).Here, ($14 + $6 − $3) ÷ (60 ÷ 60) = $17/hour. Without the tip, the same offer leaves $11/hour. At an unchanged pace for 20 weekly hours, net earnings would be $340 before taxes. That projection assumes enough similar orders exist throughout those hours.

Include parking, tolls and an allocated share of other work expenses when they apply. Don't add gas twice by using an all-inclusive mileage cost in the non-fuel field. For the fuel portion alone, use our fuel cost calculator. A reimbursed customer purchase isn't shopper compensation; leave both that reimbursement and its matching grocery outlay out of this offer-profit calculation.

Can this offer reach $20 an hour?

Reverse the math before deciding. A $20 net hourly target over 60 minutes requires $20 for your time, plus $3 for the car: $23 total earnings. With a $6 tip, platform pay must reach $17. At the entered $14 platform pay, total tips must reach $9. The original $6 tip scenario is $3 short; a possible tip isn't a promise that closes the gap.

There's also a time budget. Keeping $17 meets a $20 hourly target only if the cycle takes $17 ÷ $20 × 60 = 51 minutes or less. Nine minutes separate the example from its target. This threshold holds costs fixed: a longer return route changes mileage as well as time, so recalculate both. Never treat the time budget as a reason to rush driving or skip delivery requirements.

For a two-customer bundle paying $24 plus $10 total tips, with $4 of costs and 90 minutes of work, net is $30: $15 per customer order and $20 per hour. The $24 belongs to the entire bundle. Multiplying it by two invents $24 of earnings. Count shared shopping and route miles once, then divide net by two only when calculating the per-customer result.

Which tips and promotions belong in the total?

Shipt says shoppers receive 100% of customer tips. Tips may arrive through the app or in cash. For completed work, add the received amounts; for a new offer, test your expectation alongside zero. A $12 tip on one order doesn't establish a $12 average for a different store, customer or delivery window.

Don't rely on older claims that Shipt never shows tips beforehand. Its current pre-tip guidance says shoppers can see checkout pre-tips and may see estimated tips when no pre-tip was left. An estimate and a received tip are different records. Keep the offer's non-tip pay separate from whichever tip figure you're modeling.

Apply the same discipline to promotions. If a $14 offer already includes a $3 promo, its platform total stays $14. Adding $3 again would falsely turn the example's $17 hourly net into $20. Allocate an earned multi-order bonus once across its qualifying orders; a bonus you might earn after completing several more deliveries isn't settled income from this one.

When does an offer estimate stop being enough?

This Shipt shopper pay calculator evaluates shop-and-deliver economics; it doesn't recreate Shipt's pricing algorithm or calculate jurisdiction-specific minimum-pay adjustments. Package-delivery routes, simultaneous work on multiple apps and week-level pay adjustments need their own accounting. One profitable order also can't establish weekly earning capacity: two $17 net orders separated by a long empty afternoon tell a different story from continuous work.

Operating profit isn't taxable profit. The IRS business-use-of-car guidance describes actual-expense and standard-mileage methods with separate eligibility rules. Don't subtract a mileage deduction on top of fuel and wear here. Keep receipts and mileage records, then use the rideshare quarterly tax calculator for a separate tax-planning estimate; the $17 result above remains before taxes.
